چکیده

A bivariate population balance model (the base of LLECMOD program) for the dynamic simulation of liquid extraction columns is extended to simulate pulsed and sieve extraction columns. The model is programmed using visual digital FORTRAN and then integrated into the LLECMOD program. In addition pulsed and sieve tray columns, LLECMOD simulates stirred two types of agitated columns (RDC & Kühni). As a case study, LLECMOD is used to simulate the steady state performance of a pulsed extraction column. Two chemical test systems recommended by the EFCE are used in the simulation. Model predictions are successfully validated against steady state and dynamic experimental data, where good agreements with the experimental data are achieved.

LLECMOD: A Bivariate Population Balance Simulation Tool for Pulsed Liquid-Liquid Extraction Columns

A rigours mathematical model based on the bivariate population balance frame work (the base of LLECMOD ‘‘Liquid-Liquid Extraction Column Module’’) for the steady state and dynamic simulation of pulsed liquid-liquid extraction columns is developed. The model simulates the coupled hydrodynamic and mass transfer for pulsed (packed and sieve plate) extraction columns. It is implemented using visual...

Mass Transfer Coefficients in Pulsed Column for Separation of Samarium and Gadolinium

The mass transfer performance of a pulsed disc and doughnut column for extraction of samarium and gadolinium from aqueous nitrate solution with D2EHPA was investigated. The effects of operating parameters such as pulsation intensity, continuous and dispersed phase velocities on column performance were investigated. The axial dispersion model was used to obtain the overall mass transfer coef...

Prediction of Dispersed Phase Holdup in the Kühni Extraction Column Using a New Experimental Correlation and Artificial Neural Network

In this work, the dispersed phase holdup in a Kühni extraction column is predicted using intelligent methods and a new empirical correlation. Intelligent techniques, including multilayer perceptron and radial basis functions network are used in the prediction of the dispersed phase holdup. To design the network structure and train and test the networks, 174 sets of experimental data are used. T...

Mass Transfer Coefficients in Pulsed Perforated-plate Extraction Columns

This study examined the mass transfer performance in a pulsed perforated-plate extraction column with diameter of 50 mm using two different liquid systems. Mass transfer coefficients have been interpreted in terms of the axial diffusion model. The effects of pulsation intensity and dispersed and continuous phase velocities on the mass transfer performance have been investigated. Three different...
